Since setting up his own business in 1983,
Julian Stanley has been producing furniture of exquisite form and elegance, much
of it inspired by the Italian, French and English classical periods. With a
blend of skill and versatility, meticulous copies can be created, alongside his
own stunning original pieces. Julian's artistic ability and love of wildlife and
birds of prey are reflected in dynamic and figurative portrait busts and
sculptures and his drawing and design skills form the basis of all his work.
Julian also undertakes architectural work of all dimensions, designing and
furnishing complete rooms, working closely to the client's specifications. The
completed project is enhanced by the finest gilding, painting and marbling,
polishing and upholstery. This creates a unique environment which mirrors the
expectations of the individual.
Working with many top designers, architects, furniture companies and, of course
private clients, Julian has, over the years, been able to develop a large range
of skills, enabling him to produce beautiful and often very complicated carved
furniture.
Much of his work comes from clients in America, the Caribbean, London, the
Middle East and many more private homes in the United Kingdom. Julian finds that
working directly with a private client is often the most challenging and
rewarding means of producing his work and can be enlightening and fun.
Early in his career Julian was fascinated by Art Nouveau which he has copied and
developed his own ideas from. These are represented by free-flowing mirror
frames, often depicting the lifestyle of an individual. Much of his
bread-and-butter work in recent years has been producing lavishly carved
furniture from the 18' century, one of his favourite periods, with its colourful
and fluid Venetian furniture, French chairs and eccentric English chinoiserie.
